Our Story

We started Shamva in 2016. Hugh has knowledge and a passion for stones having studied gemmology in London and Venetia is a practising artist having studied in Florence, Falmouth and the Heatherley's School of Fine Art. After admiring sculptures carved in Zimbabwe by artists across the country, we decided that we would start a gallery creating our own designs as well as representing a select collective of contemporary artists inspired by Nature, colour and Africa. We place greater emphasis on quality, style and service making us stand out in the art world.

"What makes us different is that we offer a unique interpretation to traditional stone sculpture and make exquisite pieces with a contemporary design sensibility"

We built our own workshop in Harare December 2017. Splitting our time between the UK and Zimbabwe so we are deeply involved in the making process; from designing, buying the tools, collecting the stone, to taking it to the workshop for sculpting and giving our chosen artists our guidance and vision.

The multiple processes that go into making these pieces brings us fulfilment, bringing to life our innovative stone creations. Our designs are natural, inspired by nature and the landscapes found within Zimbabwe.
